Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Each year, over half a million people decide to have rhinoplasty. Being the most prominent feature and most defining characteristic of the face, a slight change in the appearance of the nose can greatly impact a person’s overall appearance. Some are unhappy with the nose they were born with, and others unhappy with the effects of aging on the nose. For some, an injury or trauma has caused a change in the noses appearance, or they may want a better quality of breathing. Whatever the reason may be, rhinoplasty can improve looks, self-confidence, and health in those who are unhappy with their noses.
As with other cosmetic procedures, being in good health and having realistic expectations are necessary for satisfactory results. The goal of the surgery is to improve the aesthetics of the nose so that it is in harmony and balance with the face. In many cases, patients will have mentoplasty (chin augmentation) in addition to rhinoplasty to create a better overall look to their face. Selecting the right surgeon is of utmost importance, and our surgeons are trained in both Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery, as well as Facial Plastic Surgery. As such, both the aesthetic and functional quality of the nose is equally considered, giving optimal results. The pre-operative consultation consists of photographic and computer analysis of the facial features, so that the surgeon and patient can discuss what would be the best and most desirable outcome for the patient.
The desired result is an aesthetically correct nose that is proportionate to the face and retains a natural appearance (does not look like the patient had surgery,) and correction of any functional or anatomical problems. The procedure lasts approximately 2 hours and is done under general anesthesia. There is some post-operative swelling and bruısing, and the patient can return to work and normal daily activities after 5 days- 1 week.
